The band is saddened to announce the passing of our band Chaplain, Father Richard Rubie.
Father Richard James Rubie, aged 96, passed away on May 17, 2025, in Honolulu, HI. Born on April 17, 1929, Father Rubie dedicated much of his life to service, both as a 14 year veteran of the US Marine Corps and as a devoted Celtic Catholic priest.
Throughout his military career, Father Rubie was known for his steadfast dedication and leadership. His commitment continued beyond his service years as he deeply engaged in veteran community activities, including involvement with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
In his ecclesiastical role, Father Rubie was a beacon of hope and support in his community. He was profoundly committed to helping those in need, running a halfway house for many years, and regularly assisting the homeless both in his chapel and on the streets. His efforts extended to his active participation in the Scottish Society, where he celebrated and preserved cultural heritage.
Father Rubie's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to service and community, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. His legacy of compassion and dedication to his helping others will be remembered by all who knew him.
He will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at Punchbowl Cemetery on June 12, 2025 at 2:00pm.
